When you want to pull off a beautiful cheap wedding, much of it will be DIY. It will take a lot more planning and time, but the money you save and the elegance you will be able to afford will be well worth the effort.

I know a lot of people say they aren’t crafty or creative, but you just have to give yourself a chance. I think the biggest problem holding back creativity is that most people feel they must come up with an original idea and brilliantly put it all together. That notion couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, it is rare to see truly original ideas. Think about how many new and original trends there are at any given time: only a few. Now think about how many people try to make fashions or products that go along with that trend: millions!

It is OK to be inspired by the ideas of others. It is perfectly acceptable to take an idea and either make it your own by tweaking it with your own special style and taste or change it up to suite your needs. Would it surprise you that even great artists are inspired by the work of other artists? This is what T.S. Eliot wrote concerning poets:

Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different. The good poet welds his theft into a whole of feeling which is unique, utterly different from that from which it was torn…(Eliot, T.S., “Philip Massinger,” The Sacred Wood, New York: Bartleby.com, 2000.)

So I would encourage to give your creativity a try. Take an idea and think about how you could use it in your wedding. You can change the colors, shape, style and pattern—but be inspired! Have fun. Get your friends and family to help. You will save a ton of money when you do much of your wedding decorations yourself.
